Clues About My Mental Health

One day I'll do a proper update post about my mental health. This is not it.

Right now, things are somewhere between 'Not OK' and 'Yikes'. (Silver lining: I ended up buying a really nice handbag from ebay). Things continue to be really tough, for about ten different reasons, none of which I have had a chance to process properly. (Okay, okay, this vagueness is mostly me avoiding a summary of my trip to the geneticist on Tuesday, because I'm not ready to write about it yet. Spoiler alert: she offered me a free tummy tuck, which wasn't weird at all. Okay it was). Also: dental work is more fun when they use enough anaesthetic. YES IT IS. I'm talking to YOU, root canal dentist lady from Wednesday. But there are two different family health things going on (nobody who lives in this house) and I feel more confused and anxious than I'd like to admit about it all.

Anyway. I'm sorry I haven't been around much. This is the way things are here at the moment. I really appreciated the funnystuff you all posted last time- they cracked me up, which is no mean feat right now. Thank you. And now I'm off to watch some more Friends sort my children out.

  1. Claudia, I loved this visual and shared it with Bill. Is is bad that we laughed? You are such a funny woman, even when you are down. AND, what I really like about you is that you are so honest and real, helping people like me to not feel so alone. I haven't blogged regularly for a long time - which also says something about my mental state - your post is so spot on. Truly, truly wish you lived over this way. We could probably have a tissue using/Friends watching party with a HUGE turnout. I am sorry you are not feeling so great and am thinking about you and whatever is going on with your family members. xo

  2. I love your visual :) And do I need to worry about you ??? because for me, Friends puts me in a darn good mood. In fact, I should watch it. Now. I've been feeling out of sorts and am going to blog in about 10 minutes after I'm done with my tea (real tea, not UK tea :) :))

  3. I would completely come to a tissue/ Friends party, and my mental health is greatly improved knowing I am not alone in my ahem, enthusiasm for this particular method of wasting time.

Thinking of you. The health stuff, sigh, yeah. Here, have a tissue. If I had something funny, I'd post it. Take care of yourself. The dental stuff doesn't help.

OOoh, here's something funny - once upon a time I drove my friend to get a root canal. She's allergic to the drugs, so they gave her valium to take in advance. So we got there, I went around to help her out of the car, and in trying to pull herself up, she dragged us both to the ground... and then I realized how many people were standing on the sidewalk watching us. I wish I had video for you.

  4. I'm hoping the new handbag from ebay is burgundy.
And- my MIL *chooses* to get dental work done without anesthesia. I don't know why. If you were doing that I would be really worried. Who says no to anesthesia?!

  7. I think a relationship with a geneticist is automatically a love/hate situation. Hang in there. Go find those iPhone text corrections somewhere - those make me laugh till I hyperventilate.

    1. Yeah, that's a good point. There's never a time when you're going to be totally happy to see a geneticist, I guess, is there?

      (And wow. Those are FUNNY!)

    1. Thanks J. This time I think it's not that my brain is overreacting - it's just that life keeps on smacking me in the face. Hopefully in a week or two the bruising will go down and I'll be at least back to pricing up a new insurance plan.

  11. Aww, Claudia -- I am sorry to hear you're going through a rough time. I am a veteran of many of those myself. Being on 'happy meds' I get kinda confused about what to do when this still occurs. Does this mean the meds aren't working? Or the challenge is just too super-big? Agh. Anyway, thinking of you and wishing I could be right at your front door with fresh-baked cookies and a bottle of wine right now.

  14. How are you doing now? (I've been checking back regularly, hoping for things to get better for you) To cheer you up I have happy news: I got married at the weekend :) (am now a Mrs N and not a Dr S .. yes really! I have photos to prove it) There. I've been saving it up so I could tell you and bring you (hopefully!) some cheer!
