Monday Movies

The stupid no-real-blogging-before-finishing-chapters promise I made to J has officially come back to bite me in the butt. Since I'm still beating my head against a brick wall working on the same chapter I started about a fortnight ago, this blog is strictly a no-musing zone today. So less talking, more movies!

Welcome to my house, which my children seem to think is basically a theme park called ToddlerWorld. Star attraction? The world's most patient cat, guarded by an attendant who sounds reeeeeally grumpy. (Is it just me or do all of you find that listening to your own voice on video makes your spine want to dissolve with horror?) Like all theme parks, someone is wearing a silly hat that she will later regret.

Even the accommodation has entertainment. If you know this song, you know that the actions for the first half are supposed to be head in hands, quietly pretending to sleep. But our two little bunnies love this song SO MUCH that they just can't keep the hopping in until the second half starts.

While I was uploading these, I found that I never worked out how to got around to uploading videos during our first six months or so home. So there was a big backlog. These were the two that brought back the strongest memories.

Splashing the baby girl. This used to be her favourite, favourite thing.

(And just for comparison - here's seven seconds of one taken this week in the exact same spot. I find it hard to believe this is the same child, only a year later).

Can't really think of any way to explain this one. Taken during our first two weeks or so home. We were encouraged to help them move their limbs. It was winter. I was inside the house a lot, and we had banned visitors for the first month.

I think what I'm maybe trying to say is that I was just the teeeeeensiest bit bored.

Oh, and their father got them dressed that day.

And I have clearly not got a shimmering career in front of me as a choreographer.

  2. Have to love the "Does your mother know that you're out?" in that last clip. These videos made my day! Maybe even my week or month! They are getting so big. (Smart too!)

  6. I know you are from Australia - and yet, in my head, you do not have an Australian accent. So, the videos are somehow shocking to me.
As for the kids, cutest kids ever, really, ever.

  7. I love you screaming at Blue and Pink with the cat. Did I say screaming, I mean, gently correcting them. I have that exact conversation EVERY DAY.

Also we have a different Sleepy Bunnies melody but it's just as big a hit. I need to do more video in my house.

Love this. thanks for sharing dahling.

  8. I adore the last video. The dance video. Love it. L-O-V-E it. The babies look like they are so puzzled, like, what the effe, what is this crazy woman doing to us and is it too late to go back to Ethiopia???? Hilarious.

  10. OH MY GOSH I COULD DIE FROM THE CUTENESS!!!

Wow they have a tight bond- that's amazing. I mean, I know they are twins and all but they seem so super in-tune with each other. Cool!

  12. I'm dying here - can't wait to go home to watch your videos which are blocked at work.

I remember your last video - we LOVE your accent - D said straight after hearing you call one of the babies, "aaah, an Australian" :) I said, "she hasn't even said anything yet"!

  14. oh yeah, in my head I don't have an Australian accent either, K. In my head I have the gently modulated tones of Julie Andrews in the Sound Of Music. I think that's why hearing myself is always such a shock.

  15. My recently adopted children (7 and 5) just can't get enough of the video with the cat. They nagged me yesterday for more "Gentle hands, Mommy!" and today -- guess what was the first thing out of their mouths, long before Good morning?

  16. Oh my, always always so adorable!!

  17. I loved the videos!!!! I can't wait for my two to wake tomorrow to show them "gentle hands" - that cat is the most patient cat ever! I didn't think you sounded in the least bit grumpy. You should hear me "NO Connor, stop pulling her clothes" and so on and so on...

LOVE your accent and you sing so beautifully - those little bunnies of yours made me laugh so hard D came to see what was going on.

  18. ...aaaaand today they were asking for it before their heads were even off the pillows. I've told them there's a limit on viewing today, and we're rationing it out over the day. I feel that if I hear them parrot (in exactly your accent) "Gentle hands, (name)!!!" one more time, you will be able to hear my scream right across the Atlantic.

Thank you so, so much for this.

  20. Heh! You and I are probably equally unhappy about this, Gwen - you for VERY obvious reasons, me because I'm dealing with the fact that my voice is an object of mockery to two little Ethiopian-Canadians. See, THIS is why I need to make sure that I never talk when the video recorder is on :)

  21. Your stern voice in the first video made me laugh... "GENTLE HANDS DAMNIT!"
